Hayani Waste And Transportation (Pty)Ltd

December 2022
EDITION #8

Environmental principles centre on the amount of energy and resources a company uses, the waste it produces and the impact its greenhouse gas emissions have on the climate.

Striving to make a difference and to make the world a better place, Mbudzeni Mutangwa established a waste management company, Hayani Waste and Transportation (Pty) Ltd. Mbudzeni quickly established herself with her fleet of waste management vehicles, offering waste disposal, on-site waste separation, and rubble removal services to AVIS, Pick n Pay, SITA, and SMD despite the challenges that come with being a woman in the industry. Mbudzeni later identified a gap in the market and added vegetation management to the company's services, catering for both corporate and individual clients.

Although she grew up in a business-oriented environment, Mbudzeni felt slightly unsure of her capability to make it in this industry, after stepping out of the corporate world and starting her entrepreneurial journey. It was only once she had undergone training through RAIZCORP, that the business began to develop and bring in a profit. There are no excuses for Mbudzeni to fail, as RAIZCORP taught her everything there is to know about entrepreneurship with a need for continuous improvement. With the knowledge and experience Mbudzeni has gained and the determination to never fail, she continues to rise, identifying new markets to break into and adopting the latest trends for leverage. To become successful, neither gender nor race should determine one's capabilities. There are no two ways about it: every single entrepreneur will have to go out and knock on every door and seek out every opportunity for the growth of the business and in doing so, Mbudzeni can now boast of her successes in Waste Management, Real Estate and Property Investment.

In pushing herself to "work harder to be better", Mbudzeni motivates her employees too, who are proud to have completed their training in Hazardous Waste. The company's supervisor too attends continuous waste management related training, offered by Institute of Waste Management in Southern Africa (IWMSA). The addition to their services allows the company to demonstrate its expertise while assisting corporate clients and individuals to reduce their carbon footprint. While Hayani is helping to make the world a more sustainable place, there is still a lack of education on environmental sustainability, which has become a priority for Mbudzeni to highlight to others. Mbudzeni aims to educate as many people as possible, one company at a time, and to broaden the horizons of their waste management services by expanding into the mining and manufacturing industries.

Hayani's continuous growth can be attributed to the company's foundation of good ethics, which allows it to create jobs for those who are unable to obtain an education. These job opportunities and their services help Hayani to achieve its mission, which is centred on social development and environmental sustainability.
