Motivated by her two beautiful daughters’ need for an education and a good life, Sindi’s Best For All Director, Sindi Molete, decided to start a business after her husband fell ill and lost his job. It was now or never for Sindi and with her passion for cooking, which she inherited from her hardworking and street vendor mum, Sindi took a leap of faith.
Sindi was accepted into Nestle’s Enterprise Development (EDP) programme in 2016, which resulted in Nestle covering her full tuition fees at the HTA Culinary School. After graduating in 2017, she was one of the three candidates who received sponsorship for R200 000 worth of catering equipment from BCE Food Service Equipment. Luckily Sindi had space on her father’s property in Mondeor, Johannesburg, where she built a storage facility and kitchen. Sindi’s Best is still in full swing today, providing the community with catering services for weddings, funerals and other events.
After catering at Toyota’s Soweto function, Sindi’s Best was approached by Siyakhula for mentorship. Siyakhula took Sindi’s Best under its wing, offered intensive training and provided the company with financial assistance, including a tent, which was bought to counter the risks of revenue loss in case of bad weather. With Covid-19 almost destroying the economy and many small enterprises, Siyakhula’s financial assistance was a boon to Sindi’s Best and has helped the company grow. Starting with only three employees, the company has grown to a staff complement of 12 permanent and temporary workers after the company branched out to supply a new canteen at Toyota Menlyn.
Now a proud member of the South African Chefs Association and after landing the one-year contract with Toyota Menlyn, Sindi envisions her company having canteen facilities in each division of Barloworld and says the need for a delivery vehicle is of utmost importance for her company. This is more so during the Covid-19 pandemic and will help her keep up with the fast-paced and growing market. Sindi says marketing is one department that needs attention in her company and will use the branded vehicle to further enhance her company’s visibility.
In giving advice to new business owners, Sindi said “one should never hesitate to ask for help, have a plan and be transparent”. She continues to follow her motto for life: never give up and let your passion lead. “Siyakhula gave me confidence,” she said, and is grateful for the opportunities Siyakhula continues to afford her. As Sindi presses on to success, it is her hope that many others, especially women, will benefit from Siyakhula. Siyakhula salutes this strong, dedicated and grounded woman who made a bold move for her family during its most dire moment.
