ZTI Consulting (“ZTI”) was established in late 2019 by the husband & wife team Nqabisa and Zama Titi offering IT services including office digitization, database management and process automation solutions. The business was founded on the strength of Zama’s Engineering background working in Business Processes, Robotics, and Automation in the banking sector.
The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 derailed the company’s plans as market opportunities froze and prospecting for new clients became increasingly difficult in the initial national lockdown. No two ways about it, life had become ‘survival of the fittest’ and the company sprang into action immediately providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to corporate companies pivoting the company’s service offering into the healthcare industry. This time around, their company leaned on Nqabisa’s 13 years of experience in the healthcare sector working for Life Insurance & Medical Aid companies as a risk and claims assessor which gave her broad knowledge of the healthcare value chain and the key players in the sector. The company was soon registered as a reseller of Abbot Laboratories’ medical diagnostic equipment including rapid Covid-19 tests. The service offering has since expanded further to encompass a comprehensive online medical data management platform providing real-time, screening infectious diseases, toxicology, pregnancy tests, cardio-vascular markers, and respiratory disease markers.
The pandemic was devastating in its human toll and as most markets froze, the partners sadly regretted the timing of their venture into the business. The one thing that saved their business was that they did not get fixated on their intended products and services. They paid attention to the dominant developing need in society and brainstormed how they could use their capabilities to serve it. Being a start-up without the burden of legacy investment in infrastructure enabled them to quickly pivot into IT based healthcare services.
The agility helped the business to continue operating during the toughest periods of the pandemic, and as the country slowly returned to normal, their initial target markets have also opened up. This has allowed the company to combine the two offerings into a compelling and differentiated offering that enhanced their competitiveness. Their resilience was able to start paying off as ZTI has finally started seeing some growth within its healthcare division. In October 2021, ZTI began their journey as suppliers to Barloworld and approached Siyakhula seeking working capital to purchase stock and assist in covering operating expenses. The support ZTI received also includes rebranding of the business in support of its restructuring and new market positioning that merges Technology, Health, Safety and Wellness.
So energised are the founders with the renewal that they are contemplating a name change along with a rebranding initiative to signify a brand new path in life’s journey.
